A total of 52 extraordinary female high school students who joined this year’s summer school have received the certificate of merit.

Asian University for Women (AUW), in association with Chevron, has successfully concluded its Summer School program on 03 August, 2023. A closing ceremony was organized yesterday at the AUW campus in Chittagong. Guests, students, parents, journalists and representatives from Chevron Bangladesh attended the ceremony.

Chevron Bangladesh launched a pioneering partnership with AUW in 2019 to build the academic skills of young girls. It has continued its partnership since then. The AUW Summer School program has been instrumental to enhancing the skills and competencies of young students to stand out in investigative science-oriented further studies and careers.

A total of 52 extraordinary female high school students who joined this year’s summer school have received the certificate of merit. It is a diversified five-week program (4 July – 3 August 2023) focused on Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Coding and Public Health. These courses have been taught by a cohort of international and local faculty with excellent academic and professional backgrounds.

The Honorable Speaker of the Parliament, Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury graced the event as the Chief Guest. Dr. Chaudhury, along with the Vice Chancellor of AUW, Dr. Rubana Huq distributed the certificate of participation among the students. Muhammad Imrul Kabir, Director, Corporate Affairs of Chevron Bangladesh attended the program as the Special Guest. Mohammad Rashed Iqbal Chowdhury, Deputy Secretary APS to the Honorable Speaker, and Commodore M. M. Naim Rahman (G), NGP, NCC, PSC, BN, Mr. Tusherujjaman Khondoker, Community Engagement & Social Investment Manager, Chevron Bangladesh, among others, were present at the event as the guests of honour.

Representatives from Chevron Bangladesh highly praised the collaboration between AUW and Chevron and expressed their joy in participating in the students’ journey in opting for further STEM careers. Dean of faculty and Academic Affairs, Dr. Beena Khurana addressed and welcomed the respected guests, college principals, guardians, and students. The AUW Summer School 2023 coordinators, Ms. Sumaya Halim and Ms. Nujhat Jahan facilitated the event.
