press release Chevron Organizes Tree Plantation Drives

DHAKA, September 24, 2019 - Chevron Bangladesh recently organized tree plantation drives at various locations in Sylhet. Chevron’s Jalalabad and Moulavi Bazar Gas Plant Superintendents inaugurated the proceedings at events that were also attended by the Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation, Ariful Haque Choudhury; Lackatoorah and Majdehee tea estate managers, and Chevron employees. The events were conducted in collaboration with the Bangladesh chapter of Chevron’s XYZ Network, an employee network. The first such tree plantation drive of the year was held earlier in June to mark World Environment Day.

As part of Chevron’s ongoing efforts in environmental stewardship, it has been involved in tree plantation drives since 2005. Over the past 14 years, over 137,000 timber-yielding, fruit-bearing and medicinal saplings have been planted in different areas near its three gas plants in the North-East of the country. Chevron also supports a range of corporate social responsibility programs in education, health and economic development for the communities residing near its areas of operation.

Sylhet Mayor Ariful Haque Choudhury thanked Chevron for participating in and supporting Sylhet City Corporation’s “Green City, Clean City” initiative and informed those gathered that the Krishnochurra saplings shall be planted on the bank of the Surma River, and Radhachurra on the newly-constructed road dividers in major thoroughfares of Sylhet town.
